Life Changes

I have made a huge change in my life in the last 45 minutes. I am going to be teaching second grade this fall at The Discovery School in Dickson. Aaron and Lyn are particularly excited since I've promised to lay off about grandkids. This should help my baby fever a bit.

I had applied at this same school for what I thought was my dream job of elementary librarian - that may still be my dream job, it just will remain in my dreams - and the interview went so well they decided to offer me the only other available position - one I didn't even apply for. If you don't know how school interviews go anymore, you are usually interviewed by the principal plus a representative from all the different grade and subject levels in the school, so I had five other people there. One couldn't make it. Thank goodness, she may not have liked me!

It is a really small school. There are only about 16 teachers and less than 400 kids. They are close knit - more like family- in fact the principal said it was almost like having a second marriage. The fact that they invited me in is great, but now what? I'm scared to death. I haven't taught second grade in 28 years! I'll be teaching math, social studies and science and the other second grade teacher will teach the reading. I'm excited about teaching math, social studies and science, but jealous that she gets reading. How's that for logic? Twenty homeroom kids and twenty more of hers for 90 minutes a day while she has mine. Something new since I last taught elementary, a planning period!

1305 Tulip Avenue

this is my house... its looks are very deceiving, it's big for such a little house, two bedrooms, a nice full kitchen, a dinning area in the kitchen, and out of the kitchen, large living room, and a very spread out bathroom. that front window on the far left is my bedroom, and the big windows on the right are to the living room. i've been here since friday, and i still don't have all my stuff unpacked, mostly because i get tired of unpacking so quickly. mom is here with me for a few days, we've been accomplishing things here and there, but not wearing our selves out. i started class yesterday, and so far, so good. just trying to get the hang of it. hope this finds you well.
